CHEF BIOS

Chef Fermin Nunez

Jerry's Famous Coffee Shop

Chef Fermin's career extends over 20 years of ongoing learning, training and experience in the culinary trade. His passion to become a chef started in his mom's kitchen, during his teenage years. In 1986, he landed his first food-related job at Macayo's Mexican Restaurant working as a Prep Cook. The time spent at Macayo's allowed Fermin's fondness of the culinary world to grow much stronger.

In 1989, Fermin became part of the Jerry's Nugget family as a Dish Washer. Within eight months of cleaning dishes, he quickly transitioned into the cooking department as First Cook. His daily, hard-core tasks involved doing just about everything in the kitchen! From prepping salads, cooking steaks and prime rib, and storing ingredients for inventory.

In 1994, Fermin's hard work and devotion paid off and he advanced to the job title of Sous Chef. During this time, he learned many savvy cooking techniques, taught entry-level cooks, mastered the secret ingredients among popular food specials at Jerry's Nugget, and managed cost control in the food department. Fermin further strengthened his skills by studying at the College of Southern Nevada with an emphasis in the Culinary Arts and Sanitation and Nutrition.

Then in 1997, Fermin received another promotion as an assistant to the Executive Chef. From there, he perfected his cooking skills to finer foods dealing with French, Mexican, Greek and American cuisines. Because of his unending passion to learn the culinary arts, Fermin is now the Executive Chef of Jerry's Famous Coffee Shop. Fermin is excited and welcomes the everyday challenges. The best part about his job is that he gets to work together with Ana Nunez, his baby sister and Pastry Head Chef of the Jerry's Nugget Bakery. Fermin looks forward to creating new and tasty dishes that will delight his guests and above all, he is fond of teaching and growing with Jerry's Nugget.

Chef Ana Nunez

Uncle Angelo's Bakery

Ana Nunez's interest in Baking began when she was just 8 years old. Coming from a large family, baking was an opportunity for Ana to get some time alone with her mother. As Ana grew, she pursued her interest in cooking, but was never quite satisfied. She convinced the pastry chef at one of the largest properties on the strip to allow her to work in the Bakery. He was not eager to pass on the baking trade, but she persevered and became Bakery Helper.

From there, Ana's interest grew into a passion. To hone her skills, she started taking classes at the Community College Baking Program, where she learned the art of Bread-making, Breakfast Pastries and all types of Cookies. Nunez also attended the Culinary Institute of America, with locations in San Francisco and New York.

She mastered the art of Cake Decorating, Petit fours and French Pastries. You may want to try Ana's Fruit Tart. It is a special pie shell, unlike any other, filled with creamy custard and piled with fruit of the season. If a Cream Puff is more to your taste, her Cream Puffs have a whole strawberry in the center with pillows of fluffy white whipped cream. Whatever the item, Ana always tries to put a little something special into her recipes.

After 8 years of experience, she felt an obsession to become a Pastry Chef. Ana chose Jerry's Nugget to fulfill her dream because of their reputation of having the best restaurants and bakery in North Las Vegas. What appealed to her was the challenge of maintaining the quality and professional products produced at Jerry's Nugget. It is Ana's creations that inspire her staff. From wedding cakes to breads, Ana's art has been mastered. It would be very difficult for Ana to choose just one favorite thing. But if you asked her staff, it would be decorating. But don't ask Ana for any trade secrets! Her love for baking is contagious and the legacy goes on. It is her time with her son in the kitchen that brings her the most joy. So I suppose it is he, who holds the Nunez secret recipes!
